B&B In Malta
A massive renovation was undertaken to preserve an 150 year old house in the basin of the island of Malta. The client was my former flatmate from a period when I lived in Spain. It was plain to both of us that once she’d obtain her own house, no matter where it would be, I’d be there to decorate it for her and that’s what happened. My friend and her partner purchased the sprawling, four story house and decided to turn it into a guesthouse. The clients live in the penthouse with their two dogs and the remaining rooms, the kitchen and the backyard are used for guests. The challenge was to develop an updated and youthful design while still respectfully preserving the traditional architecture and design of Malta. With this in mind, I did extensive research into the culture and local styling design and the use of local building materials and the labor pool available to me. An overseas project is challenging and completely different from working at home and was an unforgettable experience accompanied by many flights and trips around the magical island
